At first, I was very reluctant to start this series. I had heard all the hype and seen the odd Tik Tok of women swooning over shadow daddies and men with wings so I didn’t really feel it was the series for me. I took a very good friend to convince me to start it. A deal was made and I’m nothing if not loyal to my words. So I began my journey into Adarlan…
Here is a quick overview of the books I’ve read so far.
Throne of Glass
In Throne of Glass, Celaena Sardothien, a skilled assassin imprisoned in the salt mines of Endovier, is offered freedom if she competes to become the king's champion. As she faces trials, Celaena uncovers secrets about her ancestry and royal bloodline, evolving from a reluctant participant to a heroine eager to reclaim her rightful place.
Crown of Midnight
In Crown of Midnight, Celaena struggles with her role as the King’s Champion, torn between duty and truth. Her relationships and loyalties are tested, leading to revelations that alter everything. She begins dismantling the king’s plans, igniting hope for resistance.
The Assassin's Blade
The Assassin's Blade offers prequels detailing Celaena Sardothien’s early years. These stories highlight her training, relationships, and pivotal choices, enriching the main narrative and shaping her into the determined warrior seen in later books.
Heir of Fire
In Heir of Fire, Celaena embarks on a journey of self-discovery, embracing her identity and fire magic. Training with Maeve and forming bonds with Fae warriors, she navigates political tensions and prepares for rebellion, growing as a leader and embracing her true name, Aelin Galathynius.
Im not going to lie… I have really enjoyed these books. There is so much going on that my mind is whirling constantly making connections between characters and places, unearthing the mystery of what is going on together.
The characters in all the books really stand out from each other and they way they are written had me hungry to read on. There arent many books out that have had this effect on me. It is the sign of good storytelling when you feel such strong emotions towards the characters and my god, did I feel some strong emotions (Looking at you Chaol). Still not over Sam’s death. RIP sweet baby boy.
So far, the book that I enjoyed the most in the series has been The Assassin’s Blade because I loved the mini sagas in Aelin’s life and gave more context to Aelin’s choices within the other books. Before we meet Aelin in Throne of Glass, she has had this whole other life of misery and love. But that all comes crashing down when she enters the mines at Endovier.
Currently reading the next book, Queen of Shadows, so I am very much looking forward to continuing on the journey along with Aelin.
