In Wildsmith: City of Secrets, we catch up with Rowan. Rowan is learning more and more about her gifts as a Wildsmith, someone who can communicate with animals and heal them. She has been living with her grandfather, who is also a Wildsmith, and her mother on the edge of the Dark Forest. She hasn’t seen her father for what seems like a lifetime so when he appears one night on their doorstep, Rowan is delighted but something seems off about his visit.
He brings with him a secret that will lead to another adventure for Rowan and her family. Nestled in a blanket, a creature stirs, torn away from its mother buy the evils of war but not everyone in Rowan’s life is excited about the latest addition. When Rowan is betrayed by someone close, she is forced to fell everything she has know for the past two years and to embark on a treacherous journey that will push her to her limits.
Will she be able to evade the clutches of the people threatening to tear everything she loves apart or will she be caught and used as a weapon against very people that raised her?
Wildsmith: City of Secrets is just as thrilling as the first book, if not more. Rowan has grown into her power and has found a place for herself amongst the animals of the forest. Everyday she is helping those around her to grow and heal. The witches have relocated the dragons Rowan saved in the first book but as we know, things never run smoothly for long. City of Secrets expands the universe that Rowan lives in, beyond the trees of the Dark Forest to the towering walls of her home town, Holderby before having to flee again to a new life across the seas.
