I remember the first time I picked up a book by Michelle Harrison. It was back in Easter 2019, on a rainy day in Lincolnshire. My family and I had taken refuge in my favourite bookshop and I was browsing through the shelves for a holiday read. I saw A Pinch of Magic perched on the shelf in all its beautiful glory and had to have it. I spent most of the holiday sat by the window of the holiday let devouring every word. I was hooked. I was very excited every time I heard that there was another book being released so I was super happy to get to read the next instalment of the adventures of the Widdershin sisters.

A Storm of Sisters introduces us to Wilderness, the frozen landscape that the Widdershin sisters (along with Granny) must venture to take care of a relative in need. From the moment they set foot in Wilderness, strange happenings start occurring and anyone who knows Betty, Fliss and Charlie will know, when there is a mystery, it needs to be solved. When Betty hears the tale of the Highwayman Jack Frost and his beloved Elora, who bet met a cold, watery end, she is determined to uncover the truth. The trail leads them through the frozen landscape, across a vast icy lake and the maze of corridors of Echo Hall to find out the truth behind the ghostly sightings amongst the village.

I really enjoyed reading A Storm of Sisters as it felt like coming home. The characters were familiar yet had grown since the last time we met them back in A Tangle of Spells. Betty, more headstrong than ever, leads the charge in the adventure to uncover the legend, with Charlie and Fliss in tow. Magic seeps into every page as the trio unite to help the people of Wilderness and to come to terms with their past so that the future does not repeat itself. I didn’t want to finished reading this latest tale as whenever I finish one, I always yearn to read another.

In summary, A Storm of Sisters is one of the best books I have read so far this year. Michele Harrison never disappoints with her story telling and I look forward to what shenanigans the Widdershins get up to next.
