The Rise of Kyushu by F. C Yee

This was an amazing book to pick up. I saw someone on Instagram saying they enjoyed it and being a massive fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, I had to read it.

The story follows Kyoshi, a lowly servant who is found to be the Avatar, Master of all four elements. With demand for the Avatar to return to the world after years of being lost, Kysohi must navigate the treacherous dealings of both the criminal underworld and the powerful elite that seem to have everyone in their pockets.

I really loved reading this tale as it gave so much more depth and details to a character that has been a big part of Avatar lore already. There were details that relate to key points in the series which I loved and added to them so signified their importance. I found it very interesting to see how Kyoshi differs from the Avatars that came before her and knowing that she is seen as different from the Avatars that she will be in the future.

If you loved watching the Avatar series then I would definitely recommend picking this book up (and the following two, which I haven’t had the chance to read yet) as they bring the world to life with characters that seem familiar but in a new light.
