Growing up, there was very little diversity in the books I came into contact with so I really wanted to be able to expand the scope of books that the children in my class read.
Three keys is the follow up book to Front Desk. Mia is still running the reception at the Calivista Motel, which her family now proudly own. When the future of the people around her hang in the balance when Prop 187 threatens to break apart the community, Mia begins her campaign to fight against the hate.
I really enjoyed Three Keys. It had all the same fun and excitement of the first book but you could feel how the characters had grown between the two books. I love the way that Kelly Yang writes her characters with such a passion and energy that you feel like you know them. Three Keys is one of those books that you end up reading in one go because you are just so engrossed in the story and want to find out what is going to happen to next.
I cannot wait to read the next instalment and see what adventures Mia, Lupe, Jason and everyone at the Calivista go on.
