The latest instalment in the Dread Wood series by Jennifer Killick was a wild ride.

After escaping the Lachitts not once, not twice but three times, Angelo and his friends have been through a lot. When they get the chance to witness a historic moment of sea exploration, the gang jump at the chance. Aboard the state of the art cruise ship The Melusine, Club Loser are ready for a once in a lifetime adventure off the coast of Corsica but when Angelo sees a shadow under the waves, he begins to wonder: What is lurking in the deep?

What follows is a nail biting night where Club Loser must band together against a new enemy armed with some tricks up their sleeves from a pair of familiar faces. Will Club Loser survive the night or will someone be snatched away by the deadly deep? When the dust settles, Club Loser discover that what they have been running from in the form of the Lachitts has been in motion long before the fateful day of the Saturday detention, guided by someone who has been watching from the shadows.

Deadly Deep did not disappoint in any way. It was full of thrills, risk and edge of your seat moments that fans of Jennifer Killick have become accustomed to. The Lachitts reach is still being felt from across the world and with a new enemy stepping into the light, readers are pulled in again. Angelo, Naira, Gus, Haley and Collette have all grown since the first book and it is definitely reflected in the way the characters interact in this book. Friendships are put to the test and we are left with the question, how far would someone go to protect the ones they love?

With two more books to come in the Dread Wood series, we haven't seen the last of the Lachitts, Club Loser or the mastermind that has been playing the long game.
